Efter att säsongen tog slut så snöpligt förra veckan så står det nu också klart att Wetterbygden Basketball och headcoach Boris Balibrea går skilda vägar. Den 32-åriga katalanen har valt att nyttja en option i sitt kontrakt vilket alltså innebär att ledningen får se sig om efter en ny coach.

Headcoach Balibrea kom till Wetterbygden Basketball inför säsongen 2017–2018 och har sedan första stund satt sin prägel på en verksamhet som inneburit att man för varje år tagit kliv mot att idag tillhöra de fem bästa basketlagen i Basketsverige på herrsidan. Med en sällan skådad arbetskapacitet och en närmast besatthet för detaljer blev han också rättmätigt utsedd till ”Årets Coach” i Svenska Basketligan säsongen 2018 – 2019 samtidigt som Wetterbygden Stars blev utsedd som ”Årets Lyft”. Man hade då med Boris Balibrea vid rodret avancerat från Superettan till en SM-kvartsfinalserie mot Borås Basket på lite drygt ett år. Förutom att utveckla laget Wetterbygden Stars till vad laget är idag, så har han också under sin tid kommit att innebära mycket för lagets individer i deras individuella utveckling. Förtroendekapitalet mellan coach och spelare har oförtröttligt fyllts på liksom den ömsesidiga respekten för varandra som individer.

Nu står det alltså klart att den sportsliga ledningen får rikta blickarna mot potentiella ersättare, något som Dennis Aulander kommenterar på följande sätt:

Låt mig först bara börja med att tacka Boris för tre magiska år här hos oss i Wetterbygden Basketball. Jag har haft förmånen att följa hans arbete på nära håll och jag kan ärligt säga att det var längesen som jag mötte någon inom basketsporten med samma passion, integritet, kunskap och arbetskapacitet som coach Balibrea. Hans unika förmåga att vara en auktoritet utan att för den delen vara auktoritär gentemot sina spelare är också något som fastnat och imponerat hos mig, liksom hans unika förmåga att få ihop en grupp individer till att uppträda som ett lag.

Oavsett Boris Balibreas alla tillgångar som coach och människa så är naturligtvis ingen oersättlig i vår organisation. Viktigt för oss nu blir att ta reda vilken kravprofil vi önskar ha på vår nya coach och inte minst ta reda på våra sportsliga målsättningar inför kommande säsong. När väl det pusslet är lagt så är jag övertygad om att vi är en attraktiv verksamhet att jobba i med lag på både dam- och herrsida i förbundsserierna och med en blomstrande ungdomsverksamhet. Samtidigt som vi behöver utse en ersättare så behöver vi vara noga med att vi får in rätt sorts kompetens och inte minst: rätt sorts människa, säger Dennis Aulander.

För Boris Balibrea själv stannar alltså resan i Wetterbygden Basketball vid dessa tre år och här nedan kan ni ta del av det emotionella brev han önskar dela med sig av efter sina tre år i en verksamhet som helt uppenbart kommit och betyda en hel del för honom:

I never imagined that this day would come, because the happiness that I have found in Wetterbygden prevented me from thinking about some other projects. I’ve always said that I’m in this world not to be a coach, but to be HAPPY. Being a coach is the path that leads me to happiness. So making the decision not to continue in a place where I’ve been HAPPY lasts 3 years, it has caused me a lot of sadness and pain.

I want to thank all the fans, youth players, members of the event group and all those responsibles for the CLUB, for their treatment and their kindness towards me during these 3 years. Since my first season at Wetterbygden, each and every one of the people who make up the CLUB have made me feel like at home. I want to make a special thanks to ALL the players that have passed during these 3 years, because they have been the true ARTISTS of bringing the Wetterbygden name to the top of national basketball. Also, apologize for any mistakes I have made in the past. You know that I always tried to do my best, even making mistakes. Thanks also to all the staff members, who have had to put up with me every day (not an easy task) and have made everything much easier. And of course, infinite THANKS to the best partner in the world, the one who has always believed in me (in wins, but especially in hard defeats). Thanks Dennis for always having the perfect words for every moment. Without you, this would not have gone that far.

Lastly, if I look back on the past, and think about the road traveled, I think it’s still a DREAM. I came with a clear goal, and I leave with the feeling of having accomplished it. Beyond winning or losing, I think that during these 3 years we have left our mark on Swedish basketball. Leading the beginnings of a project is a job that requires a lot of energy. You have to fight hard to remove the stones from the road, you find trees in the middle of the way aswell, and why not say it, sometimes you even get lost. But in the end we always find a way to find the good path that took us to the destination where we want to go. Leading a group of people like the ones we have had these 3 seasons requires a lot of responsibility, which I have always assumed with great respect. I’m a very passionate person, who always tries to give his best, and leading this sports project has consumed me a lot of energy. That is why, I have had to make this difficult and painful decision not to continue in this wonderful place.

I’m leaving tired, exhausted, sore, but above all, I’m leaving HAPPY and proud of the journey we’ve traveled together. I leave with the feeling that this will always be my home, and that I leave many friends in Jönköping. This is not goodbye, it is a see you soon.
